Darize led the development and nationwide rollout of a digital diagnostic platform that transformed how suspected skin cancer cases move through the Danish healthcare system.
The Challenge
Long Waiting Times Slow Skin Cancer Diagnosis
The healthcare system needed a faster and more efficient way to speed up diagnosis, coordinate care across healthcare providers, and reduce unnecessary procedures. Healthcare providers in Denmark handled approximately 400,000 skin cancer consultations every year, while only around 17,000 cases proved malignant.
To support this change, general practitioners, dermatologists, and hospitals needed a shared digital platform that could connect workflows across the healthcare system.
The solution
Darize Led a Nationwide Diagnostic Transformation
Agile program leadership
Darize structured the program for a fast start and phased rollout, with a clear focus on the most critical challenges.
Workflow transformation
The team modeled cross-sector clinical workflows and built the solution around real healthcare practices.
Procurement and compliance
Darize helped manage procurement activities, supported dermatology capacity planning, and ensured IT quality assurance throughout the program.
Integrated solution architecture
The team mapped the national healthcare infrastructure, defined the target architecture, and designed integrations between key systems.
Solution rollout
Darize developed cross-sector processes and modeled business cases that supported adoption across healthcare organizations.
The impact
Faster Diagnosis Reaches Patients Nationwide
The solution allows general practitioners to capture high-resolution images of skin lesions with a DermKit (iPhone and dermatoscope) and send them directly to a teledermatologist for rapid assessment.
The initiative received multiple awards and delivered measurable results:
-
Reduced dermatologist response times from 10 weeks to 1 day.
-
Enabled approximately 50% of patients to receive diagnosis and complete treatment through their general practitioner.
-
Provided nationwide access to fast, secure, and clinically validated skin cancer diagnostics.
-
Reduced biopsies and surgical interventions by approximately 35%, generating estimated annual savings of DKK 215 million.
