Security advisor and team lead based in Jutland
Vaern has a clear ambition to strengthen our presence in Western Denmark and move even closer to our clients in the region. Leading this effort is Niels Trads Pedersen, who is himself based in Jutland and has a strong local network.
Niels is part of Vaern’s business leadership team and works as a consultant providing strategic information security advice. Here, he shares what drives him professionally, what defines the collaborative culture at Vaern, and the ambitions for the market in Western Denmark.
What motivates you in your work as a security advisor?
“What motivates me most is creating real value and a sense of security for our clients. To me, information security is not just about technology. It is about trust. I am passionate about helping organizations navigate a complex threat landscape and turn security into something that both supports the business and makes a tangible difference. Being able to contribute in a meaningful way as an advisor is what makes the work truly worthwhile.”
What is the best advice you have ever received?
“One of the best pieces of advice I have received is: Keep it simple, even when it is complex. It is a principle I return to again and again in my work. In our industry, there is a tendency to overwhelm decision-makers with technical detail. But in my experience, the real value comes when we are able to communicate complex security challenges in a way that creates clarity and enables action.”
Why did you choose to join Vaern?
“I chose Vaern because expertise and flexibility go hand in hand here. I could see that there was room both to develop my specialist expertise and to influence the direction of the work, both in individual client engagements and in our broader strategic priorities. You are not just one consultant among many.
The culture is defined by a high level of expertise, trust, and a genuine willingness to help one another succeed. At Vaern, we have different backgrounds and ways of approaching challenges, and I see that as a real strength because our capabilities complement one another. This is particularly valuable when we need to balance technical and organizational security measures. It also means I never have to work in isolation, which strengthens both confidence and the quality of our delivery.
We actively invest in our professional community across disciplines and locations through ongoing sparring, specialist groups, knowledge sharing, and informal exchanges. Much of what keeps us sharp and curious comes from the day-to-day dialogue about emerging threats, client cases, and upcoming compliance requirements.”

consultant's perspective
“Being a consultant at Vaern requires both independence and strong collaboration skills. You need to take responsibility for your own assignments and clients, while also being ready to contribute as part of a team where we support one another and share knowledge.”
Niels Trads Pedersen
Senior Security Advisor, Vaern
What is the most surprising thing you have learned through your work in security?
“How much security really comes down to people. You can have the best technical setup in the world, but if the organization is not on board — management, users, culture — security will still fall short. The human factor is both the biggest risk and the greatest resource.”
What opportunities do you see in the market in Western Denmark?
“There is significant potential in Western Denmark. Many companies and public-sector organizations are facing increasing information security requirements, but often lack the necessary capacity or experience. This is where Vaern can play an important role. Not just as advisors, but as partners who understand the local context and can quickly bring the right expertise into play. That requires us to stay close to our clients, which is why we are investing in both our physical presence and our professional capabilities in Western Denmark.
We have opened an office in Aarhus and are working to offer targeted security courses and certifications locally. At the same time, we are building networks and strategic partnerships so that Vaern becomes a natural part of the security landscape in Western Denmark.”
What would you say to a security consultant in Western Denmark who is considering a new job?
“We are actively recruiting local professionals who can see themselves in the way we work. If you want to work somewhere that gives you the freedom to shape your day-to-day work while still being part of a strong professional community, Vaern is a great place to be. Here, you are not measured solely on billable hours, but on the difference you make. And you will have the support of both colleagues and leadership when you have ideas to contribute or want to grow professionally.
Being a consultant at Vaern requires both independence and strong collaboration skills. You need to take responsibility for your own assignments and clients, while also being ready to contribute as part of a team where we support one another and share knowledge. It also requires the ability to think strategically and understand the client’s business, because security is not an end in itself. It needs to support the organization’s core mission.
You also need to be comfortable in a role where you help set the direction and structure your own working day. That freedom is a major advantage, but it also requires commitment and initiative.”
